GARMONT 9.81 HELI

Silly me, I thought I would get the shoe version of the boot. Not so much. The shoe is narrow as compared with the same size boot. The design team decided to add non-tie laces and a keeper (loop on top of the shoe to retain the closed end string with slide adjustment mechanism). Note to the GT team: I know there are combat vets on the staff and I'm unsure who talked you into this very urban adjustment, but I did not love it. Anyway back to the shoe, That design change means if your feet are wider, you'll wrestle to get the shoe on and the narrow cut means that you'll experience discomfort during break-in. I removed the trendy laces and the lace stow and replaced it with good old fashioned laces that require manual effort every time and the shoe instantly became functional. I'm still in a long break in period to get them loosened up enough for full day wear, but it's getting better every day. Quality of the shoe itself is great so far. For the design team: (perhaps incorrectly), I think you're designing and selling a range/hiking/outside shoe, some customers may want the snazzy laces and the keeper, but for me they just didn't work. Thanks for your relentless pursuit of functional footwear.

GARMONT T8 ATHENA

Since I am smaller than your average bear, I had high hopes for the Garmont T8 Athena, constructed with a women's last. Unfortunately, like most boots, they slipped in the heel. Was also disappointed that, despite Garmont's strict return policy regarding condition of returns, the previous recipient of these boots returned them with a stain on the toe of the right boot.
